Course Description: The students will study and demonstrate knowledge of trigonometric functions, applications of trigonometry, trigonometric identities and equations, complex trigonometric numbers, and possibly linear programming, partial fractions, probability and data analysis, conic sections, parametric equations, polar coordinates, and vectors. (Credits: 4)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of MTH 111 or equivalent as determined by the Mathematics Department.
Required Materials:

Beecher, Penna, Bittenger, 2007, Algebra and Trigonometry, 3rd edition, Pearson Education Inc.
Graphing Utility, Graph Paper, Ruler, Protractor

Student Outcomes: After completion of this course the student will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Trigonometric Functions - Ch. 5;
Trigonometric Equations - Ch. 6;
Trigonometric Applications - Ch. 7;

Method of Instruction: This is primarily a lecture course, though there will be group and project work on a daily basis. Attendance is expected. A calculator is required, as well as graphing paper, a ruler and a protractor.
Expectations:

Homework: Homework will be assigned daily and completed on CourseCompass.com (10 points each). Make sure that you take nores on your homework and show all of your work; communicating a process is as valuable as showing an answer. When you are done with college nobody will care whether you can find the roots of a trigonometric function, but you will be expected to clearly communicate complex ideas.
It is strongly recommended that you do the review exercises and the chapter test at the end of each chapter before an exam. These pre-tests are extremely important to your success.
You may be given other assignments throughout the quarter. Details on these assignments will be distributed during the quarter.
Homework may be done on paper or CourseCompass.com.
Testing Procedures: There will be two mid-term exams (100 points each), plus a comprehensive final exam (150 points). You are required to correct and resubmit each exam immediately after getting it back (20 points each).
Quizzes will be distributed throughout the quarter (5-10 points each).
No make-up exams or quizzes will be given. However, if you do miss one exam you may substitute your final exam percentage for that exam, or your lowest exam grade if you missed none.
The final exam must be taken at the scheduled time, unless . . .
Opting Out of the Final Exam: You may opt out of the final exam if:

  1. You have missed no more than four classes.
  2. You have at least an 85% average on quizzes and homework.
  3. You have at least a 75% average on the two chapter exams.

Method of Evaluation:
Your final grade will be a weighted average. 25% for homework and quizzes and 75% for exams:

Grading scale:
 A ≥ 90%
Homework & Quzzes = 25%B ≥ 80%
Exams = 75%C ≥ 70%
 D ≥ 60%
 F ≥ 0%
