New Technology

Google recently revealed a robot that they’ve been working on. The short article I read about it explains that that it is a 6’6″ robot that is vaguely humanoid with arms a torso and legs with wheels for feet. This robot can jump onto or over things up to 48″ high and travel on uneven terrain including stairs. It has a top speed of 9 mph and can go about 15 miles on one charge as well as carry heavy loads as it did in one clip of the video when it picked up and carried a 100 pound load.

This robot is awesome. I suggest looking at the short video to get a better idea about what it is. I like to imagine how this could one day be a part of everyday life in the future. Although they have a long way to go before they can make it safe to interact with humans, this is a great start and it is amazing to see how well the robot handles different obstacles.

Computer Privacy

New smart devices for your home like Amazon’s Echo can compromise your security because it will sends amazon a log of everything you do with it. So if someone hacks into your amazon they can see for example that you look at weather everyday at 6 and someone might gleam from that, that you leave about that time so they know when they can steal from you. Another reason it can compromise your security is every time the device thinks it hears a wake-up word it will start recording what it hears and store that information. That can mean it could possibly put things on the internet that you really don’t want out there. There is a current murder case that the police are trying to solve and what the smart device recorded may be what solves the case.

Keeping in mind that about anything you do on the internet poses a security risk I think that these new devices pose an unnecessary security risk because I don’t believe that they are really that useful when everybody already has a phone or computer that can do the same thing. So I doubt that I will ever get one in the near future or until they change how the information we give it is stored. As someone that has had to deal with people getting too much personal information about me already this device is an unnecessary security risk

Loan Comparison

15 Year Loan vs 30 Year Loan

30 year loan

Total Interest $186,511.57
Total Payments $386,511.57

15 year loan

Total Interest $84,685.71
Total Payments $284,685.71

A 15 year loan has a higher payment but you are saving about a quarter of your total cost, versus a 30 year loan, which for my values I used was about $100,000. So a 15 year loan has more pros which means if you can afford the payments go for a shorter loan.

My Favorite Books

My list is actually about 3 book series I like because I would not be able to decide which books I like the most out of them all

  1. The Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling. The seven book series was published between 1997 and 2007.
I like these books because I liked to read about magical worlds growing up. These books were very popular when I was in school so I would talk about them with friends.
  2. The Morcyth Saga by Brian S. Pratt. This seven book series was published between 2005 and 2006.
I liked these books because of the magical world that the main character gets thrown into is extensive and well written. I liked and related to the characters a lot when I read them.
  3. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. These 4 books were published between 2003 and 2011.
These books are about another magical world which by now anyone can tell I love. The main character also has a dragon companion which I think is awesome
