According to the article, “F-35 program head pressed on Trump call as fighter cost ‘on track’ to fall 15 percent,” written by Jeff Daniels of CNBC, the price of this new fighter is on track to reach an estimated 80 million dollars per aircraft by 2019. This being lower than previously thought will save the US military budget millions of dollars. The reason for the staggering price of the aircraft is because the fighter has unique specifications which make it an absolute battle space nightmare. The F-35 is equipped with 360 degree pilot view due to high resolution cameras placed throughout the fighter, jamming abilities and the ability to avoid radar detection. These aircraft are vital to the US military and can provide a huge advantage to our military. With the price reduction it’s a win win for both the manufacturer, Lockheed Martin and the US military.
With the F-35 potentially being the most dominant fighter in the air it’s a pleasant surprise that the price has been reduced. This technology is vital to the military and to its operations. The current F-18 Super Hornets, which are made by Boeing, will be obsolete once these new F-35’s take their place. The F-18’s have been very useful to the US and have provided many years of service. With the good name they made for themselves it will be a real treat to see how the far superior F-35 will go.
